"Berlusconi attacks gay", "Berlusconi insults the gay." These catastrophic titles of some of the major dailies on newsstands in recent days about the stupid joke - also perfectly consistent with the substance character - that the Prime Minister has given the Fair, trying to justify his private affairs with some women and showing the other hand, once again, that man, when it is expressed in following his own freewheeling nature, is more worthy of an inn of the lowest category of the palaces of power.
If the joke is in itself so stupid and do not deserve to be out of place - despite the general indignation - no comment, two aspects are a side issue that should be underlined. The first concerns the fact that some newspapers, commenting on yet another Berlusconi gaffe (whether or not changes little media strategy) spoke of "machismo", even homophobia: no joking matter, homophobia is something else, and has little to do with machismo, homophobia is discrimination based on ideological speculation that has its roots in ' ancient Catholic propaganda, which the Italian society is so saturated that even the most does not seem that there is no attitude of contempt for homosexual persons, but rather the proper reporting of a condition "naturally unnatural" (there are steps the pun ) homosexuality.
The index of this is also given by the corollary of paradoxical statements and very sad for those who have the thankless task of defending the leader and always - a real job! - Or simply a fellow party members. Take for example the Hon. Santanche, according to which Berlusconi is right because "every family dreams of a heterosexual son", or official statements prior to Berlusconi's jokes, like the philosopher (?) Rocco Buttiglione, who says that being gay is wrong as not paying taxes. Worthy tavern cronies of the Prime Minister.
The second thing to point out concerns the mass media, which evidently believe gay people deserve the front page, if there's only half of Berlusconi. Yet homophobic statements tremendously more serious and vicious arrive every day from Oltretevere, bouncing on this side of the river from inside the palace, from which come amplified. It is therefore legitimate to ask what is worse: to make a joke about gays or support third-graders with obstinacy that homosexual persons are a threat to the family and for society as a whole?
Theorizing racism itself against a minority, bragging that this constitutes a danger to the majority, was for centuries the most effective way to justify some of the greatest tragedies of humanity, yet these statements fools never ends on the front page with the same emphasis of these days, as if there were in newspaper editors a sort of evil addictive (or even lack of interest: best scandal, makes it more) to the religious propaganda, with the result that we behave as if we had all been lobotomized and chloroformed, stripped of the capacity for indignation and play ' alarm when it is needed.
is why in all this, no small part of your responsibility is to be attributed to media sensationalism, political absorbed by a cheap and successful, the bulk of the media has given up his role as a sentinel of democracy, offset the strong powers, generator informed debate and conscience free. The media, in contrast, are prone in power even when they claim to be his pride against. The quality of a democracy is measured also by the condition of minorities and the degree of freedom of conscience and the media. For this reason, beyond the trivial out of the worst prime minister in history, if we can rightly say that this democracy is sick, it's up to us to respond: Even with the media.
